Black Gold Golf Club is located at 1 Black Gold Drive in Yorba Linda and is owned and operated by the City of Yorba Linda. The 18-hole course is designed by architect Arthur Hills and occupies more than 219 acres of rolling terrain in the foothills. The course is managed by KemperSports, a professional management company with expertise managing more than 130 golf venues since 1979. The course extends to a maximum yardage of 6,756 yards from the championship and black tees. The clubhouse is 20,000 square feet with event and banquet capacity for 200 guests. An on-site restaurant, Derrick's Grille restaurant, is open daily to the public. The facility also includes a lighted driving range and putting green for practice and play.
The property's history and design
The course was built on the site of a former Shell Oil Company oil field and opened in November 2001 as a new community amenity. The terrain features dramatic elevation changes, rolling hills, dry ravines, and hillsides characteristic of the Yorba Linda foothills. Architect Arthur Hills designed the course to incorporate these natural features into the layout. The course design includes consecutive par-3 holes at holes 7 and 8, another par-3 at hole 10, with a 410-yard par-4 ninth hole separating them. The par-5 18th hole finishes alongside a waterfall and cascading water feature, providing a distinctive and memorable closing hole.
On clear days, views from the course extend over coastal Orange and Los Angeles Counties, including portions of the Newport Beach coast and toward Catalina Island. The terrain showcases the natural landscape of the region with dramatic elevation changes that provide both challenge and scenic vistas across the surrounding area.
